Fika. What is it?

By: Stockholms Akademiska Forum

Fika, anyone?

Swedes love fika (pronounced fee-ka) which is the social ritual of hanging out over a cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun. It’s not like people outside Sweden don’t do this, it’s just that Swedes have made it a lifestyle. The cliché is true, and for some reason, we can’t stop talking about it!

A fika could be many things: it could be a birthday fika; an interview fika; a hanging-out-with-a-friend-in-the-city fika; or an afternoon fika with colleagues. The list can really go on! But the main thing about fika is that it sets the standard of how Swedes socialize and is a great way to connect with people! Suggest a fika.
