The board visited Amsterdam

Stockholm Academic Forum has identified Amsterdam as one of Stockholm’s largest competitors as seen as an academic destination. Both Amsterdam and Stockholm are open cities that place sustainability issues high. The population in both cities has a very high level of communication skills in English. Both cities attract approximately 10,000 international students annually from more or less the same countries.

To take the pulse on Amsterdam, Staf’s board therefore made a 2-day visit to the city on 22-23 November. A first visit was made at IN Amsterdam which is a one-stop shop for international newcomers to Amsterdam. Day two was a visit to the University of Amsterdam, the Faculty of Economics and Business. During the visit, the Dean of the faculty, Professor Han van Dissel, and his co-workers told of their views on internationalization and their cooperation with the surrounding community, and not least with the City of Amsterdam.

During the trip, a board meeting was also conducted. Prior to the meeting, some changes in the composition of the Board have taken place. Louise Stjernberg, former Vice-Chancellor of the Swedish Red Cross University College, completed her appointment as vice-chancellor on November 1st. Therefore she has been replaced by Johanna Adami, President of the Sophiahemmet University, in the Staf board. With the newly changed political regime in Stockholm, the city’s representation in Staf’s board has also changed. Fredrik Jurdell, former deputy city director has resigned and his place is still vacant pending the City of Stockholm appointing a new member. Olle Burell, former Vice Mayor for Schools and Education, now Opposition Vice Mayor, stays on until further notice.
