Rui Wang is an Associate Professor at The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences (GIH), and specializes in geriatric epidemiology. She obtained her doctoral degree from Karolinska Institutet (KI), and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Shandong University. After her doctoral education, she received funding from the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) to pursue an international postdoctoral position. During this period, she gained valuable research experience at the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. Meanwhile, she also undertook her postdoctoral work at the Aging Research Center (KI), which was the host institution in Sweden.

Her research primarily revolves around addressing three major questions related to aging. Firstly, she explores the impact of various activities, such as physical activity, cognitive engagement, and social interaction, on preserving cognitive function during the aging process. Secondly, she aims to develop a reliable screening tool for dementia by leveraging wearable digital biomarkers, which can provide valuable insights for early detection and intervention. Lastly, she investigates ways to create aging-friendly neighborhoods by exploring the neighborhood’s influence on healthy behaviors and brain health. Through her work, she strives to enhance our understanding of geriatric health and contribute to the development of strategies that promote healthy aging.
